At a Glance

Future Initiative is the support set that single-handedly justifies running a healer in The Division 2 raids. While most yellow gear sets focus on personal skill DPS, Future Initiative flips the design: your job is to heal yourself and your group, and doing so passively buffs everyone within 15 meters with bonus armor and skill damage. It is the closest thing the game has to a paladin aura.

For pug groups, Future Initiative is what keeps everyone alive through Iron Horse and Dark Hours mechanics. For organized raid teams, it is the slot that turns a "good" run into a "clean" run — the +15% skill damage aura buffs every pulse turret, every demolisher firefly, every striker drone in your group at the same time. The healer becomes a force multiplier.

In solo play, Future Initiative is mediocre. Its bonuses target group members, and many of its talents have reduced effect when you are alone. Save this set for group content.

Set Bonuses Detail

2-piece bonus

The 2-piece grants +30% Repair Skills. This is the outer multiplier on healing output — it amplifies Restorer Hive ticks, Reviver Hive heals, Chem Launcher Reinforcer clouds, and Booster Shot heals. On a healing-stat-stacked build with already 200% Repair Skills from attributes, this brings effective healing to nearly 3x the base values.

This bonus also affects shield repair via the relevant skill mods, which is part of why Crusader-shield tanks love being healed by Future Initiative players.

3-piece bonus

The 3-piece grants +15% Skill Haste. Skill Haste reduces all skill cooldowns, including the cooldown after destroying skills. For a healer running Reviver Hive (which has charges, not a traditional cooldown) this matters less, but for any build mixing in Chem Launcher or short-cooldown skills, it lets you cycle them faster and keep heals constant.

4-piece "Forward March"

The signature mechanic. You and all group members within 15 meters of you gain a passive aura: +20% Bonus Armor and +15% Skill Damage. The buff is on as long as the teammate is in range — there is no requirement to do anything specific to maintain it.

Additionally, whenever you heal yourself or a group member, the healed target gains amplified DPS for a short window. The exact value is +15% weapon damage for 5 seconds, refreshed on every healing event.

This means a Future Initiative healer who is actively healing is constantly amplifying every gun and every skill in their group. In a 4-stack raid the math compounds dramatically — a turret that does 1 million skill damage normally is doing 1.4 million plus a 1.15x weapon-damage multiplier on the user's gun shots that proc skill amplification.

Chest talent: Empath

Empath increases the strength of your healing skills based on the wounded state of your allies — the more hurt they are, the more you heal. This pairs perfectly with the 4pc, since a low-armor teammate gets bigger heals, which means more frequent triggering of the amplified DPS window.

Backpack talent: Rally

Rally extends the range of your support effects by an additional 5 meters and increases the duration of buffs you grant. With Rally, your 15-meter aura becomes 20 meters, and the post-heal amplified DPS window extends from 5 seconds to roughly 8 seconds. Both effects are massive in raid encounters where teammates are spread across an arena.

4pc Mechanic Deep Dive

Forward March has two distinct components that need to be tracked separately.

The first component is the proximity aura: +20% Bonus Armor and +15% Skill Damage to anyone within 15m (or 20m with Rally). This is automatic, requires no input, and applies to you as well. It is checked every server tick, so teammates moving in and out of range gain or lose the buff immediately.

The second component is the post-heal amplification: +15% Weapon Damage to the healed target for 5 seconds (8 with Rally). This requires a healing event — Reviver pulse, Restorer tick, Booster Shot apply, Chem Launcher cloud, even self-healing from talents like Bloodsucker. Every heal refreshes the buff duration. In sustained healing scenarios, you can keep this active on the entire group continuously.

The interaction with skill builds is what makes the set raid-defining. The +15% Skill Damage from the aura stacks additively with Skill Damage attributes, but it is calculated outside of Total Skill Damage, so on a Aegis or skill-DPS teammate it represents a meaningful uplift on top of their existing buffs.

The amplified DPS does NOT stack with itself across multiple Future Initiative players — only one source applies. Running two Future Initiative healers in the same raid is wasteful for this reason. Run one healer, four damage dealers.

Best Skills

Future Initiative is built around healing skills. The strongest pairings are:

Reviver Hive + Restorer Hive — the standard healer loadout. Reviver brings teammates back from down state, Restorer keeps them above the wounded threshold. Both feed Empath and the 4pc amplified DPS.

Reviver Hive + Booster Shot Stim — for raid groups that have low downtime. Booster Shot gives a burst heal plus damage boost on top of your aura.

Restorer Hive + Reinforcer Chem Launcher — area healing for stacked groups. The Reinforcer cloud heals everyone inside it continuously, triggering the amplified DPS window for everyone simultaneously.

Reviver Hive + Defender Drone — utility variant where the drone provides damage mitigation while you heal. Less common but works in specific encounters.

Avoid offensive skills like Striker Drone or Sniper Turret on a Future Initiative build — you need at least one healing skill to trigger the post-heal amplification, ideally two.

Top Builds

Future Initiative × Reviver (Standard Healer)

The default raid healer. You stay near your team, throw Reviver where teammates are likely to go down, drop Restorer in chokepoints. Eagle Bearer benefits from your own aura for self-DPS during lulls.

Future Initiative × Eagle Bearer (Healer-DPS Hybrid)

The hybrid build. You contribute real DPS via Eagle Bearer while still healing the team. In Dark Hours boss phases this lets you participate in burn windows while maintaining your aura.

Future Initiative Solo Stim Healer

Solo Summit variant. You cannot use the group aura to its full potential, but the post-heal self-amplification still works, giving you +15% weapon damage on every self-heal.

FAQ

Q: Does the +15% Skill Damage aura affect my own skills? Yes. You are part of your own group for aura purposes, so your Restorer hive and any other deployed skills benefit from the +15% Skill Damage. This is why the set is decent on a hybrid healer-DPS build.

Q: Does Future Initiative work with the Eagle Bearer's self-buffing mechanic? Yes. Eagle Bearer gives you boosted damage on its own when killing enemies, and Future Initiative's amplified DPS window stacks on top. Healing yourself while wielding Eagle Bearer is one of the highest personal DPS configurations for a healer.

Q: How does it interact with Tag Team gloves? Tag Team is a damage amplifier on tagged enemies. Future Initiative's amplified DPS is a separate multiplier, so they stack multiplicatively. A teammate running Tag Team gloves under your aura gets both buffs simultaneously.

Q: Can two Future Initiative players share auras? The aura applies, but the amplified DPS effect does not stack — only the strongest source applies. Running two Future Initiative players is therefore redundant for the post-heal buff, though the aura itself does affect both.

Q: Is Empath better than other healing chest talents? For Future Initiative, yes. Empath scales healing based on wounded state, which means your teammates get bigger heals exactly when they need them most, which triggers the 4pc amplified DPS reliably. Other healing talents like Companion or Composure have less synergy.

Q: Does the aura work through walls? No. Line of sight is not strictly required, but range is checked in 3D, so a teammate behind a wall but within 15 meters spherically will receive the aura. Vertical separation (different floors) often cuts the range though.

Q: What is the minimum Repair Skills to feel competent? Around 250%. Below that, your healing is too weak to keep teammates above wounded threshold against legendary damage. Aim for 350-400% for raid content.

Q: Does Booster Shot count as a healing event for the 4pc? Yes. Booster Shot applies a small heal in addition to its damage buff, and that heal triggers the amplified DPS window on the recipient. Booster Shot is one of the best Future Initiative skill picks for this reason.

Closing

Future Initiative is the set that proves support roles can be impactful in a damage-heavy game. You are not just keeping people alive — you are actively making them deal more damage, and the effect is constant, automatic, and stackable with everything else they have built. A good Future Initiative healer is the difference between a raid clear in 25 minutes and a raid clear in 12.

The set requires a different mindset than most builds. Your damage meter will not look impressive. Your contribution shows up in the team's damage meters, and in the fact that no one died. If that is satisfying to you, this is the best set in the game for that role.
