title: "SPAS-12 — Pump Shotgun Build Guide & Stats (TU22.1)" description: "Full breakdown of the SPAS-12 pump shotgun in The Division 2: damage, RPM, builds, talents, and PvE/PvP usage." weapon: "SPAS-12" class: "Shotgun" subtype: "Pump" baseDamage: 70000 rpm: 100 mag: 7 reload: 1.8 headshotMultiplier: 1.5 updated: "2026-04-25" patch: "TU22.1"

At a Glance

The SPAS-12 sits in the comfortable middle of the pump-shotgun bracket in The Division 2. It does not punch as hard per pellet as the M870 Express, but it carries a larger seven-round tube and a slightly snappier feel between shots. For agents who want a reliable close-quarters tool that does not demand the patience of a heavy pump or the recoil management of a full-auto, the SPAS-12 is the safe pick.

In TU22.1 the weapon is in a healthy spot. It has not received a buff or a nerf, but the broader shotgun rebalance from the previous title update lifted base pellet damage across the family and the SPAS benefits the same way the M870 does. The seven-round magazine, in particular, makes it the only pump shotgun in the game that can clear a Heroic patrol of three reds without manually feeding shells between targets.

If you have ever liked the M870 Express but felt punished every time you wanted a third shot, the SPAS-12 is the weapon you should be running.

Stats

Stat Value
Base Damage 70,000
Rounds Per Minute 100
Magazine 7
Reload Time 1.8 s
Headshot Multiplier x1.5
Optimal Range 0–10 m
Damage Falloff Start 7 m
Damage Falloff End 25 m

The 70k base damage figure is the per-shot total before the pellet spread is applied. With 12 pellets and the standard pump-shotgun spread cone, you can expect roughly 80–90% of that damage on a body-sized target inside seven meters. Past ten meters, falloff is brutal and you will struggle to one-shot a red.

The 1.8-second reload is one of the fastest in the pump bracket and that matters more than people realize. With Determined or Pummel, you are essentially never empty-handed, and the SPAS rewards aggressive forward play in a way the M870 simply does not.

Headshot multiplier of x1.5 is standard for the shotgun family. It does not stack particularly well with weapon-type headshot mods, but it does respect the global headshot bonus from gear talents like Glass Cannon, Vigilance, and Determined.

Talent

The SPAS-12 rolls with the same base-shotgun talent pool as the M870 and the Super 90. The standout rolls in 2026 are:

Pummel is the meta choice on a pump shotgun because the seven-round magazine and pump action mean you are constantly worried about your last shell. Pummel makes that worry disappear while also stacking damage. Optimist looks tempting on paper but the math only works on builds that intentionally never reload, which is awkward with a pump.

Top Builds

Heartbreaker SPAS

The Heartbreaker chest piece grants stacking weapon damage for hits while ammo is in the magazine. With a seven-round SPAS and Pummel refreshing the mag, you can keep the stacks alive almost indefinitely. Run Picaro's Holster, Fox's Prayer, and a four-piece Striker if you want pure damage, or three-piece Heartbreaker plus two-piece Hana-U for the talent-stack synergy.

Strega Glass Cannon

Strega is still the highest-ceiling shotgun build in the game. Glass Cannon doubles your damage out, doubles damage in, and the SPAS can kill most reds in a single body shot before they ever land a return hit. Pair with Memento backpack for stack maintenance and a Vigilance chest if you want the headshot multiplier to break 3.0x.

Striker SPAS Solo Heroic

Six-piece Striker with the SPAS as your primary is one of the most forgiving Heroic-solo builds for new agents. Striker stacks build quickly because each pellet counts as a hit, and the seven-round magazine means you can finish a yellow before stacks decay. Run a Capacitor or Backfire as your secondary for ranged work.

PvE-PvP

In PvE the SPAS-12 is a top-three shotgun for clearing rooms and finishing wounded NPCs. It does not compete with the AA-12 for boss DPS but it absolutely competes with the M870 for one-shot potential on red and purple enemies. The seven-round magazine matters most in challenge content where you face four or five reds simultaneously.

In PvP the SPAS is more situational. The Dark Zone meta still favors the Boomstick for its raw burst, and the Super 90 fires faster, which matters when your target can reroll their armor on the move. That said, the SPAS-12 has the cleanest one-shot range of any pump in the Conflict 1v1 environment and skilled players continue to bring it. Aim for the upper chest, never the head, because PvP normalization gutters shotgun headshot scaling.

FAQ

Is the SPAS-12 better than the M870 Express? Different tools. The M870 hits harder per shot but only carries six rounds. The SPAS-12 carries seven and reloads in the same time. For sustained close-quarters fights the SPAS wins; for first-shot one-tap potential the M870 wins.

What is the best talent for the SPAS-12? Pummel for almost every build. Determined is a respectable second choice on pure headshot builds, and Optimist is only worth using on a niche unstable-damage build that keeps the mag low on purpose.

Can the SPAS-12 one-shot reds on Heroic? Yes, with a Glass Cannon Strega or a fully buffed Heartbreaker stack. Without those force multipliers it will reliably one-shot reds on Challenging, but on Heroic you should plan for two body shots or a clean headshot.

Is the SPAS-12 viable in the Dark Zone? Yes. It is not the Boomstick but it is a more forgiving choice for engagements at the awkward 6–9 meter range where sawed-offs already start losing pellets to falloff.

Closing

The SPAS-12 is the everyman pump shotgun. It does not win any individual stat category but it loses fewer fights than the M870 because of the magazine, and it loses fewer fights than the Super 90 because of the per-shot damage. If you are building your first shotgun loadout in 2026, this is the one to roll until something better drops.
